Scottish concert and events promotions company CK Events, has scooped a top honour at this year’s Scottish Music Awards.

Picking up a Tartan Clef in the inaugural Emerging Business Award category, the Inverness-based company was recognised for its role in bringing some of the UK’s biggest artists to locations across Scotland in the last couple of years.

Its approach to concert promoting which includes identifying unique venues for concerts as well as providing a platform for a number of Scotland’s up-and-coming bands, contributed to its award success.

JLS performed at the Royal Highland Centre, the venue’s biggest music event in over a decade; Boyzone and The Saturdays rocked Hopetoun House, Edinburgh; and Rod Stewart took to the stage for his only Scottish concert of 2011 at Pittodrie Stadium.

The concert promoter was also responsible for transforming Northern Meeting Park in Inverness into festivals with thousands fans enjoying performances from Big Country, Simple Minds, Boyzone and Shane Ward over the summer.

The Scottish Music Awards, which brings together Scottish artists, tour managers, journalists and concert promoters, is now in its 15th year of raising money for the Nordoff-Robins Music Therapy in Scotland, has seen artists from Annie Lennox to Nicola Benedetti win ‘Tartan Clefs’.

“This is a great honour for us to be recognised as an emerging business by our peers in the Scottish music industry.

“This award recognises the hard work and commitment of our team in delivering some of Scotland’s most popular music events this year. Our aspirations remain high and we are dynamically driving the business forward, increasing the number of music events over the next few years and ensuring music lovers can see their favourite bands at unique locations across Scotland and the UK.”

The Emerging Business Award was launched in association with goNorth, an organisation established as a platform for artists from the north of Scotland to showcase for music industry and media representatives.
